Glucosamine hydrochloride functionalized tetraphenylethylene: a novel fluorescent probe for alkaline phosphatase based on the aggregation-induced emission.

Grafting of glucosamine hydrochloride moieties to tetraphenylethylene (TPE) motif furnished a novel cationic water-soluble tetraphenylethylene derivative (GH-TPE). With aggregation-induced emission properties, GH-TPE was used for fluorometric detection to alkaline phosphatase through enzyme-triggered de-aggregation of the ensemble of GH-TPE and substrate.

Specific light-up bioprobes based on AIEgen conjugates.

Driven by the high demand for sensitive and specific tools for optical sensing and imaging, bioprobes with various working mechanisms and advanced functionalities are flourishing at an incredible speed. Conventional fluorescent probes suffer from the notorious effect of aggregation-caused quenching that imposes limitation on their labelling efficiency or concentration to achieve desired sensiti...

Organelle-specific bioprobes based on fluorogens with aggregation-induced emission (AIE) characteristics.

Bioprobes based on fluorogens with aggregation-induced emission (AIE) characteristics have been increasingly used in chemosensing and bioimaging due to their high sensitivity, photostability and biocompatibility. In this review, we summarize the design of cellular organelle specific (cytoplasm membrane, mitochondria, lysosomes, lipid droplets and nucleus) AIE bioprobes and their applications in...

Aggregation-Induced Emission for Highly Selective and Sensitive Fluorescent Biosensing and Cell Imaging

Fluorescent bioprobes are powerful analytical tools for studying biological activities in living systems. Fluorogens with aggregation-induced emission (AIE) characteristics have recently emerged as a new class of fluorescent bioprobes for biosensing and cell imaging. As discovered by Tang, AIE fluorogens are nearly nonemissive in molecular states with their intermolecular rotations being not re...

A fluorescent probe for detection of histone deacetylase activity based on aggregation-induced emission.

A tetraphenylethylene-derivative fluorescent probe for the one-step detection of histone deacetylases (HDAC) was developed. The deacetylation of the probe triggers electrostatic interaction between the molecules and automatically leads to fluorescence enhancement based on aggregation-induced emission (AIE).
